Mr. Josh Geddis
It is my absolute privilege to be the music teacher and band director at St. Anne's Catholic Secondary School in Clinton, Ontario. I believe that every student should take music at least once during their tenure at St. Anne's and I firmly believe that taking music as a NEW grade nine student can have a massive impact on your experience as a high school student.
I have been in the education business for sixteen years now. In my first year working for the Huron-Perth CDSB I was an Educational Assistant at St. Michael CSS in Stratford. After working as an EA for a year and realizing how much I loved working in our Catholic School System I finished up my University studies, graduated teachers college and spent two years as an English teacher at St. Michael. I am now in my 14th year as music teacher and band director at St. Anne's!
Several years ago we were awarded a $10,000 grant through MusiCounts BandAid and the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Science (the organization responsible for the JUNOs) in recognition of the massive growth and accomplishments that we had achieved in music at St. Anne's. We are the NEWEST secondary school music program in Huron County but we have won numerous awards at the regional level (Kiwanis Stratford and MusicFest London) as well as recognition on the national stage. In the past we have achieved two silver standings at MusicFest Nationals in Ottawa and Toronto. Most recently we were awarded a GOLD standing at MusicFest Nationals in Toronto and Niagara Falls respectively. In 2018 we achieved a Silver Standing at Nationals in Toronto.
Graduates of the music program at St. Anne's pursue many different areas of post-secondary work/study and we currently have multiple graduates attending University Music Faculties (and four graduates who are now actually teaching music within the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board). We are a "small" "country" school but our music program is anything but. We have high music standards and achieve great success both in the classroom and on stage.
As a music teacher, may passion is pure and simple - to play music. I love to play music and I love teaching students how to grow musically. When I am not in the music room, I'm at home with my wife Jessica Langan (also a music teacher who proposed and piloted the first elementary instrumental music program in our board) and my kids Nolan (8), Kyle (6) and Jordyn (3). To date I have released two studio albums (check out my new album on iTunes/Spotify) and have had the pleasure of opening for some amazing national touring artists. I also like to spend time collaborating and working with other local artists and consulting on arts projects in the Huron-County area.
I am a huge Detroit Tigers Fan and most of my students will hear me refer to Sparky Anderson's famous quote "The Players Make the Manager, it's never the other way." This is true in baseball AND the music classroom. We have excellent students at St. Anne's. Studying music gives students an opportunity to develop leadership skills and a work-ethic that will last a lifetime. At the end of the day, I am just one person at the front of the room waving a baton around and keeping things organized. It is truly the students who do the bulk of the work and make this program, in my opinion, the best music program in Huron County!
I am very proud of what we accomplish each and every day in the music room at St. Anne's.
